Did You Know?
The Food and Drug Administration has agreed that eating pecans and some other nuts regularly "may reduce the risk of heart disease." FDA approved the first ever qualified health claim for a food in July 2003. The claim states, "Scientific evidence suggests but does not prove that eating 1.5 ounces per day of most nuts, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease."

Durham-Ellis Pecan Company makes its home in Comanche, Texas. Snugly tucked among the hills of Central Texas, the small community of Comanche takes its name from the Comanche Indians of the Southwest Plains. Pecans were known to be a major part of the Comanche diet. Comanche County is home to 10,000 acres of native pecan trees. In addition, 38 million pounds of peanuts are shelled there annually.
Durham-Ellis Pecan Company is a well-known Pecan Sheller and distributor of hundreds of other nuts, mixes, and candies. Dried fruits, snack mixes, and gourmet baskets are also offered to our customers. We package our products for wholesale bulk and retail sales. We service our customers with gift sets, fundraisers, and corporate gifts. For our customers convenience, we have a retail store in Comanche.. (Our former retail store in Fort Worth is closed, leaving only wholesale in Fort Worth.) The Durham Pecan legacy began in 1928, when W.M. Durham, Sr. had a vision of providing people with the freshest and highest quality pecans. He wanted to help people earn money during hard times, so he set up long tables for workers to shell pecans by hand, earning money when the pecan meat was weighed. In 1998, Durham combined with Ellis Pecan to form Durham-Ellis Pecan Company and today is still a family owned business with the same high standards. Our mission remains the same, establish customers satisfaction and loyalty by providing quality products and services.
Our facilities in Comanche, Texas cover over 130,000 square feet. Each year, Durham-Ellis Pecan Company shells millions of pounds of pecans and roasts millions of pounds of other nuts. We pride ourselves in being able to shell, roast, and package all our products with state of the art processing and packaging equipment. Today, we still use Mr. Durhams methods of handpicking our pecans in combination with our state of the art equipment. We have adequate cold storage buildings to ensure freshness year around.
